Directed by: Roar Uthaug

Main Plot

Beneath the rugged peaks of Norway’s Dovre mountain, an ancient being stirs after centuries of slumber. Freed from its underground prison, the colossal troll emerges into the modern world, unleashing chaos and destruction as it moves relentlessly toward the capital city of Oslo. As panic spreads and the authorities scramble to respond, a diverse group of scientists and officials must work together to unravel the mystery behind the creature’s awakening. Racing against time, they seek to understand the troll’s origins and motivations, hoping to find a way to stop its rampage before it reaches the heart of Norway. The fate of the city—and perhaps the entire country—hangs in the balance as the legendary monster leaves a trail of devastation in its wake, forcing humanity to confront the myths and legends that have long been buried beneath the surface.

  • Kim Falck portrays Andreas Isaksen, a government advisor caught between political pressure and the looming threat. Andreas must balance his loyalty to his country with his growing doubts about official decisions.
  • Mads Sjøgård Pettersen appears as Captain Kristoffer Holm, a military leader tasked with stopping the rampaging creature. Facing impossible odds, Kristoffer’s resolve and sense of duty are pushed to their breaking point.

Ending Explained

As Troll reaches its climax, the awakened creature—having rampaged through the Norwegian countryside and drawn ever closer to Oslo—faces a final confrontation with the human characters who have been desperately searching for a way to stop it. Realizing that brute force only provokes the troll further, the protagonists uncover crucial insights about the creature’s origins and vulnerabilities, rooted in ancient folklore and the pain of its captivity. In a tense showdown near the city, they use these discoveries to lure the troll away from populated areas, employing elements from its past to calm and ultimately subdue it. The resolution is bittersweet: while Oslo is spared from destruction, the troll’s tragic fate underscores the consequences of humanity’s disregard for the natural and mythical world. The surviving characters reflect on the cost of their victory and the importance of respecting forces beyond their understanding, leaving the story open to questions about what other ancient secrets might still lie hidden beneath the mountains.
