Ending Explained
As Open Grave reaches its conclusion, the truth behind the protagonist’s amnesia and the grim pit of corpses is finally revealed. The man, along with the other survivors, gradually uncovers that they were part of a medical team working to contain a deadly outbreak. Their memory loss is the result of an experimental drug meant to protect them from the infection, but it has left them disoriented and suspicious of one another. In the final moments, it becomes clear that the real threat is not just among the group, but outside as well—the infection has spread, and the world beyond is collapsing into chaos. The protagonist realizes that he is not the murderer, but rather someone who tried to save others, though his actions were misunderstood due to the memory loss. As the infected close in, the survivors make desperate choices, with some sacrificing themselves to give others a chance to escape. The ending is bleak, emphasizing the futility of their struggle and the devastating consequences of the outbreak, leaving the fate of humanity uncertain.
