Main Plot

A New York City police officer tries to save his estranged wife and several others taken hostage by terrorists during a Christmas party at the Nakatomi Plaza in Los Angeles.

Ending Explained

In the ending of Die Hard, John McClane successfully defeats the terrorists led by Hans Gruber. He rescues the hostages, including his wife Holly, and they escape the Nakatomi Plaza before it explodes. McClane and Holly reconcile, and as they leave in a limo, they spot a surviving Gruber's henchman. McClane kills him and throws his gun out of the window. The film ends with McClane's iconic catchphrase, "Yippee-ki-yay, motherf***er."
